About Hiroshima Gokoku Shrine

Large local shrine for many local religious events and celebrations.

Originally established in 1869 to mourn victims of the Boshin War, the Hiroshima Gokoku Shrine has been moved several times in its history. The current shrine was rebuilt on the Hiroshima Castle grounds in 1965, after being destroyed in the atomic bombing.

These days the shrine is host to a range of ceremonies and events, including families celebrating their children’s coming of age, students praying for good marks, or young couples hoping for a good marriage or luck.
