A popular street in Gion with preserved Machiya style houses which now house a range of fine dining restaurants. A well known area for exclusive (and expensive!) ochaya tea houses, where Geisha and Maiko perform.
Constructed in 1202, Kenninji is considered the oldest Zen temple in Kyoto, and is one of the five most important to be found in the city. It features a number of gravel and moss gardens, along with lavishly decorated halls.
