About Miyajima Ropeway

Scenic ropeway from Momijidani Park up part of Mt. Misen to the Shishi-iwa Observatory.

The Miyajima Ropeway climbs part of Mt. Misen, between a station just past Momijidani Park to just near to the Shishi-iwa Observatory. Built in two sections, the first using 8-person gondolas, and the second using 30-person aerial tramway cars.

A free shuttle bus operates from the entrance to Momijidani Park to the base station. Otherwise, it can be reached by a pleasant 10-20 minute walk through the park.

The total ride time is around 15 minutes, with a typical transfer wait of around 10-15 minutes depending on visitor numbers.

The ropeway may occasionally be closed for maintenance, or may suspend services due to strong winds, thunder, power outages or other circumstances. In these cases, it’s possible that you may need to make the descent from Shishi-iwa Observatory on foot, which can take about 1 hour depending on your fitness.
