Named after the folded paper crane, which is a symbol of peace, the Orizuru Tower was opened in September 2016. Overlooking the Atomic Bomb Dome, the 50 meter tall tower is one of the few tall buildings near the Peace Memorial Park and overs stunning views of the area.
The panoramic lookout on the top floor is styled to resemble a Shinto Shrine, using timber including cypress and cedar. All four sides are open to the air without any protective glass, allowing you to enjoy the sites with a connection to the natural breeze and weather. On a clear day, it’s possible to see across to Miyajima.
The 12th floor offers an interactive media area, including an area selling materials to create your own origami paper crane. You can take this home with you, or choose to leave it as an offering along with thousands of others forming a wall of paper cranes.
