About Hondori Shopping Street

The main shopping street of downtown Hiroshima, a large covered street full of all range of local shops, cafes, restaurants and department stores.

A great place to stroll and take in the atmosphere, Hondori is the main shopping and local thoroughfare of Hiroshima. Hondori runs parallel to Aioidori, the Main Street for cars and trams, along with department stores and larger shops.

Hondori has a relaxed local feel and you can see people going about their daily lives at all times of the day. In the evenings it becomes a place for locals to enjoy themselves, and this is especially true for impromptu celebrations if the local baseball team - The Carps - are doing well!

The western end of the street is mostly retail stores, and you will find more restaurants and bars as you progress further east. However, don’t stroll too far east, as it develops to seedy bars, clubs, and then into a full red-light district.
