Kokoen Garden
About Kokoen Garden
Next door to Himeji Castle, Kokoen Garden contains nine separate, walled gardens each reproducing a different style of the Edo Period.
Sitting on the site of the lord’s west residence, Kokoen was built in 1992 to commemorate Himeji’s centenary.
Covering around 3.5 hectares, it contains nine distinct gardens, each reproducing a different style from the Edo Period. Many offer stunning views of Himeji Castle, next door.
